  Choosing a Style

There are many styles of décor, but most fall under one of the following categories:

.Modern
.Contemporary
.Traditional
.Country
.Eclectic

When choosing a style for your home, there three basic factors to consider:

1.Style of the home's architecture
2.How the space will be used
3.Your personality

The easiest way to choose a style for your home is to go with the style of the building. A rustic log cabin will obviously dictate a rustic or country style. In a colonial home, one would expect traditional décor. If your space is a more modern structure, contemporary or modern décor will enforce its style.

Next, you should consider how the space is used. If you plan to entertain guests often, you may need a more formal design approach. If a more casual purpose is in mind, a contemporary or eclectic style may be the way to go.

Finally, and probably most important is your personality. If you are conservative, you will probably be more comfortable in a traditional setting. If you consider yourself to be trendy and fashionable, a modern or contemporary look may best reflect your style. In the end, your goal is to be comfortable in your environment and it should be a reflection of you.

Country - Décor that is relaxed and casual, creating a tranquil environment. This style can range from American country to English country to Rustic.

Modern - Sleek, stark and spacious design, with angular and geometric lines. Modern décor creates a cool, clean environment.

Contemporary - Similar to modern, but simpler and refined, using color schemes for effect, rather than coordination. Contemporary style is trendy, featuring what is current.

Traditional - Classic design which encompasses historical periods. Traditional style is elegant, formal is considered to be timeless.

Eclectic - Self-defining as it enriches itself from a mixture of styles, color, textures, patterns and fabrics. Old is incorporated with new, creating a very individualistic style.
